“Building Patreone” is a series of videos that go through the actual process of building a web application. No pre-designed course, no curriculum, adapt and adjust as we do in real life.
Although I did go to University for computer science, I've learnt most of what I know about web development by myself or by working with others. Having started my own company right after graduating I did't have a more senior mentor to guide me, instead I went online for help. I did a lot of online courses, coding exercises, etc.
But it turns out that there is a limit to how much you can learn from that, at some point you have to build actual web applications to keep improving. As I started building more complex systems with real use cases I felt that the gap between what I had learnt from these courses and my day to day was widening. It took me a long time to get to where I wanted to be in terms of knowledge and eventually working with more experienced developers in different projects was what really allowed me to level up.
In “Building Patreone”, we'll build a real product that will have real users and you'll be able to come along on a journey that doesn't end on deploy. These are the videos I wish I had when I was starting!
As with any real web application, this video series has no predetermined end, nor mandatory progression, which means you can watch the videos in any order depending on what type of problem you want to dig further into. Improve your knowledge and level up you development game!

Luis Zamith – Hey there, I’m the author behind ‘Building Patreone’.
For the past 12 years I have worked on the web, originally using Ruby and RoR, but mostly moved to Elixir and Phoenix in the past 5 years, at Subvisual, a company I helped create. I enjoy open source and giving back to the community. I have taught Rails to over 500 people, with workshops, university classes, mentoring and even 1-1 coaching. I love experimenting with new, fun programming languages and that is how I got started with Elixir. Building Utrust (now xMoney) was my first big project with Elixir, but have since worked on a few more, including at some of the biggest Elixir code bases in the World.
